Honoured by the Fairmont!

I am thrilled to find out that I have been awarded The Fairmont Waterfront’s “Partner of the 4th Quarter, 2012.” Over the past few years I have worked on many projects with the great people at The Fairmont Waterfront – one of Vancouver’s most prestigious hotels. Last December I was asked to run a workshop for the Executive Committee during their planning committee retreat in Whistler and absolutely loved working with them. I was honoured that they asked me to teach and am even more so to have received this award.

The Fairmont Waterfront is nearing the end of a major refurbishment and the hotel is looking spectacular.  If you have a chance to visit or stay, I can highly recommend both the hotel and its great staff.

Fairmont Waterfront

Here are some of the fun projects I have worked on with The Waterfront this year:

Spring 2013

My resolution to be a better website promoter seems to have failed miserably, I’m afraid.  “How can you possibly know what’s going on with me unless I tell you?” I ask myself. No answer is forthcoming, so now there’s no excuse. Here goes.

Studio News

I have signed a new lease at my studio so I’ll be here for a while yet.  To celebrate, my dear friend JC is installing a new hot water heater for me.  That may not seem exciting, but since I have had no hot water here for 6 years, I am stoked.

I have a bunch of new postcards in stock as well as new greeting cards and many more designs in the Mini Prints and 8 x 10 framed and unframed prints.  I also have new Giclee Prints of the Sylvia Hotel, Commercial Drive and the Seawall in West Vancouver, amongst others.  All in all, I have managed to pretty much fully restock the studio after the Christmas period, in preparation for a busy Spring and Summer here on the Island, and at the Summer shows.

I am working hard on the new calendars for 2014 – and hope to have both the large and small versions out earlier this year – in time for the Summer shows, in fact.  The 2014 Small calendar will be in the landscape format, for those of you who prefer that to the portrait style.

Scratch and Dent

I now have a permanent Scratch and dent are in the Studio – and it  currently contains quite a few framed Giclee prints which have slight scratches or dings in the frames but have been discounted up to 50%. Where possible I have "touched up" the scratches, so some are barely visible.  This is a great opportunity to pick up giclees at a great price, and saves me from reframing them.

Sale Shelf

A also have a permanent sale shelf at the studio and right now, this contains the last few 2013 calendars, both large and small, marked down to $2 each, the last of my large and small tote bags at $10, as well as the remainder of the blank and lined 8½” x 11” journals and some odds and ends framed and unframed prints. Lots of bargains to be had!

What’s Happening in the next few months?

Once again, I will be doing the excellent Ladner Village Market – and for a few more days this year.  Details below:

Ladner Village Market

June 9th & 23rd, July 14th & 28th, August 25th, September 8th.  10am – 4pm.

I hope to be doing other summer shows, but cannot confirm those yet – I’ll keep you posted.

What Else?

I have recently had quite few requests to teach some kind of a workshop, and I have been thinking seriously about doing this.  Logistically, it would probably be in a day format or possibly two days over a couple of weekends. I still have to calculate what the cost might work out at.

I taught my first workshop just before Christmas to a group of corporate clients on a retreat and it was received quite well, so I definitely feel more confident about the prospect of doing more.  I have been thinking about something which would have the focus of participants completing a painting during the workshop – where I would guide you through how to use materials and how to see your chosen subject and adapt a photograph, as I would in my paintings, to produce a image of, for example, your home, favourite spot or special place.

Please contact me if you might be interested in taking a  small workshop here at my studio – I am collecting names right now and would only have space for a limited number of attendees, so I am gauging what kind of interest there may be in such a class.

I look forward to seeing you all in the next few months at the studio or at some of the summer shows I’ll be attending – do come by and say hello.

Beaver Pond

Welcome to Beaver Pond Creative Productions, featuring the line of work by Vancouver artist Hilary Morris. Since she started painting commercially in April 1988, Hilary's works have been purchased and hung all over the world.  In addition to her interpretations of the sites of Vancouver and BC, Hilary has painted numerous commissions: homes, businesses, boats, and many other subjects.

She has been commissioned to produce a commemorative print for the NBA draft, held in Vancouver and also later for the NHL Draft.  She has had many solo and group exhibitions and has her work on permanent display at her Studio / Gallery on Granville Island.

Hilary's original paintings are produced in opaque watercolour (Gouache) and India Ink and her reproductions capture, in the same detail and vibrancy, the colours of Vancouver and the West Coast.
